Vintage Mogens Ballin Brooch With Coral & Lapis Lazuli

This is a sterling silver brooch from Copenhagen artist Mogens Ballin with cabochon set coral and lapis lazuli stones.

Measures 3 1/4″ from top to bottom and 1 5/8″ across (8cm x 4cm).

Hallmarked “HB 826S”. Georg Jensen worked for Mogens Ballin in the early 1900s, some say it was Ballin who encouraged Jensen to start his own business. When Ballin’s wife tragically died in 1907, he lost interest in the business and sold it to Hans Peter Hertz in 1908, who ran the business as Mogens Ballins Efterforretning until circa 1920. Production from this period is marked “HB” for Hertz and Ballin.
