Vintage Mogens Ballin Brooch With Garnet

This is a vintage 826 silver Art Nouveau  brooch with a small cabochon set garnet stone.

Measures 2 1/16″ x 7/8″ (5.2cm x 2.2cm).

Hallmarked “HB M.BALLINS EFT. 826S”. Georg Jensen worked for Mogens Ballin in the early 1900s, some say it was Ballin who encouraged Jensen to start for himself. When Ballin’s wife died in 1907, he lost interest in the business and sold it to Hans Peter Hertz in 1908, who ran the business as Mogens Ballins Efterforretning until circa 1920. He hallmarked his production “HB” for Hertz and Ballin and also “M. BALLINS EFT.”
