Vintage Hans Hansen Sterling Silver Sauce Boat and Ladle
An Art Deco Hans Hansen sterling silver sauce boat and ladle, both pieces designed by Karl Gustav Hansen between 1932-1934. The body of the sauce boat is spherical in shape and stands on a raised foot, the spout is broad and lip is curved outwards and the ear-shaped handle is applied high on the piece. The outside surface has a hand-hammered finish, so light refracts on the surface. Hans Hansen is one of the premier Danish silver makers, Karl Gustav Hansen is the son of founder Hans, it was Karl Gustav’s designs that brought the company to the forefront of Danish design. This sauce boat is catalogued as design #153 (page 142) in the Koldinghus Museum book on Karl Gustav Hansen from 1994.
Dimensions: Measures 5 7/8″ (13.6cm) in height to the top of the handle, the pitcher comfortably holds 13.5oz (400ml). Gross weight for both pieces 20.38oz (578g).
Hallmarks: Marked underneath, “Anno 1938 Hans Hansen Denmark 925S”. The ladle is marked, “Anno 1939 Hans Hansen 925S”.
