Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Centerpiece Bowl 196

An exceptionally early and rare Georg Jensen Art Nouveau sterling silver footed centerpiece, design #196 by Johan Rohde, introduced circa 1916. This remarkable example is among the earliest produced and differs significantly from later versions of the design.

The large bowl is entirely hand raised rather than spun, resulting in a deeper and more sculptural form. The gently flaring bowl is supported by an elaborate stem of exceptional craftsmanship, featuring six columns connected by scrolling elements, richly hand chased leaves, and large silver bead details. At the center rises a dramatic cluster of beads resembling a stylized grape bunch, a motif often associated with Rohde’s finest early work. The stepped circular base is composed of a series of hand hammered beveled rings, lending both elegance and architectural strength to the design. With its deeper hand raised bowl, intricate construction, and early hallmarks, this centerpiece represents one of the most desirable and collectible versions of the #196 design.
