Unique Georg Jensen Lidded Henning Koppel Object

A sterling silver Georg Jensen covered dish, designed by Henning Koppel in 1969. To the best of our knowledge this the prototype for design #1184. Records indicate that none of design #1184 were ever produced. We are talking about an extremely rare Museum worthy piece. The design is a very sculptural mid-century ultra-modern organic design, which resembles a large clam shell. Koppel’s designs often depict animals and objects that he would have seen from his Taarbaek home which faces the Kattegat Sea.  The silversmithing work on this piece is second to none. The dome shaped top is attached by a hinge with a small, attached lever to open the piece. The short stubby handle is pokkenholdt (Guaiacum).

  • Dimensions: 11 1/4″ (29cm) including the handle. Without the handle 7 1/4″ (18 cm) x 8″ (20 cm).
  • Weight: 895 grams (31.57 oz.)
  • Hallmarks: Vintage 1947-1977 hallmarks, Georg Jensen HK sterling Denmark
