Sterling Silver A. Michelsen Mustard Pot by Arne Jacobsen

A rare sterling silver Mid-Century mustard pot with removable glass mustard holder, design by architect Arne Jacobsen and produced by A. Michelsen. This mustard pot was designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which was completed in 1960. Jacobsen was known for his comprehensive design packages, not content with designing the building, he also designed all the fittings, furniture and cutlery. Even down to designing the ashtrays which were sold in the hotel souvenir shop. The mustard pot is spherical, with a flat bottom, the glass mustard pot is a deep blue in colour and is removable for easy cleaning.

Dimensions: Measures 2 1/4″ in height and 2 3/8″ in diameter (5.7cm, 6cm).

Hallmarks: Marked underneath, “A. Michelsen Copenhagen AJ N9 Sterling Denmark”. The A. Michelsen hallmark is topped by a crown, as they were purveyors to the Royal Danish Court, “AJ” is the design mark for Arne Jacobsen and N9 is a date code for 1964. Also marked underneath with London import marks for 1963.
