Rare Georg Jensen Antique 830 Silver Box #59 from 1919
An exceptional extra-large and rare antique Georg Jensen silver box dating from 1919, displaying the extraordinary hand craftsmanship and naturalistic ornament associated with Jensen’s earliest period.
This piece features extensive hand chasing throughout, particularly evident in the elaborate floral decoration on the top, the columned edges of the body, and the sculptural feet. The hinged lid is centered with a beautifully chased floral and foliate motif, with flowing linear decoration extending outward toward each corner. The softly rounded sides are divided by hand-chased columned edges, giving the box an architectural quality while complementing the organic decoration of the lid.
One of the most distinctive features is the base, which rests upon four pairs of large sculptural bulb-form floral feet—eight individual elements in total. Each is richly worked and contributes to the unusually substantial and decorative character of the box. Fine beaded borders complete the upper and lower edges.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a spacious silver interior, making the piece suitable as a jewelry, keepsake, or dressing-table box. The underside of the lid also displays the elaborate floral decoration, further demonstrating the considerable amount of handwork involved in creating this piece.
The underside bears the early Georg Jensen hallmark together with “1919,” design number 58, and GI 830 S, firmly dating it to Jensen’s early Copenhagen production.
