Often referred to by collectors as the “Car Crash Tray,” the design is formed from a large sheet of sterling silver that appears to have been spontaneously folded and crumpled. Despite its seemingly accidental appearance, every curve, ridge, and depression was carefully conceived to create a dynamic interaction between form, light, and reflection. The highly polished surface transforms its surroundings into a constantly changing landscape of reflections, making the piece visually different from every angle.

Verner Panton, one of Denmark’s most influential designers, was celebrated for challenging conventional forms and exploring new spatial concepts. This centerpiece perfectly reflects his fascination with movement, organic shapes, and sculptural expression. The apparent simplicity of the design conceals the extraordinary technical skill required to fabricate such a large and complex form in sterling silver.
