Impressive Lars Dahlberg Swedish Silver Tureen 1919
A large and substantial Swedish silver lidded tureen by Lars Dahlberg, dating from 1919. This remarkable piece is richly decorated with intricate hand-chased details that would have taken months to complete. The tureen, with its removable lid, remains in excellent, if not pristine, original condition and shows very little sign of use despite being over 100 years old.
It stands on a thick, square foot attached to a lower section adorned with a hand-chased branch design and a series of individually applied round silver beads. The lower body features a continuous hand-chased floral motif encircling the entire piece. The rounded bowl is further embellished with applied branch-like elements and ribbon designs on both sides. The upper rim mirrors the bead decoration found on the base, creating a balanced and cohesive design. Two large opposing handles feature hand-chased patterns that echo the floral decoration on the body of the tureen.
The heavy lid continues the branch motif around its base, while the domed top is decorated with the same floral pattern seen on the bowl. It is finished with a large floral finial. The interior of the bowl is gilded, making it suitable for serving acidic foods. Inside both the lid and the bowl, the fine craftsmanship is clearly visible, including repoussé work. There is a slot in the lid for a ladle.
