Important A. Michelsen Art Deco Sterling Silver Clock

An exceptional and exceedingly rare Danish sterling silver Art Deco clock, designed by Holger Folmer Gross and made by A. Michelsen in 1932. A striking example of early Scandinavian modernism, this museum-worthy piece embodies the height of Danish Art Deco design with its bold geometric form, architectural lines, and refined use of contrasting materials.

The clock is crafted as a circular disk form resting on a stepped rectangular base accented with two oxidized chased lines, symbolizing continuity and movement. The silvered dial with warm beige background is fitted with dramatic Egyptian-inspired black bakelite hour markers, reflecting the fascination with exoticism and geometry that defined the Art Deco period. The oversized asymmetrical hands in red and black bakelite create a powerful graphic contrast and give the piece an unmistakably modernist aesthetic.

The clock retains its original hand-wound Swiss Eterna mechanical movement, operating approximately seven days on a full wind. The movement has recently been professionally cleaned and serviced by our clocksmith. The original glass and case remain in outstanding vintage condition with a beautiful untouched presence.

A remarkably rare surviving example of Danish Art Deco silver design, and possibly a unique piece.
