Hans Hansen Sterling Silver Art Deco Hanging Planter

An early sterling silver planter designed by Karl Gustav Hansen for Hans Hansen in 1938. This handcrafted piece features a slightly hammered, drop-shaped bowl resting securely in a solid ring foot—a beautiful expression of early Scandinavian modernism with strong historical influence.

The form is distinctly organic, beginning with a wide, rounded base that gently curves upward and narrows toward the opening. Inside the rim, a welded silver ring provides structural support. At the top, four evenly spaced silver rings are positioned at the cardinal points—North, South, East, and West—each mounted just above a shell-form decorative element. These details reflect inspiration drawn from early Roman and Nordic designs, echoing the ceremonial or practical objects of those ancient eras.

Designed for versatility, this piece can be suspended using string or cord attached to the rings, transforming it into a striking hanging planter. Alternatively, it may be used as a silver centerpiece bowl or simply admired as a sculptural decorative object.
