Georg Jensen Sterling Silver “Octopus” Five-Light Candelabrum, Design #383A
An exceptional and highly impressive large Georg Jensen sterling silver five-light candelabrum, design #383A by Georg Jensen, originally designed circa 1920. Often referred to as the “Octopus” candelabrum, this iconic design is one of Georg Jensen’s most elaborate and sculptural creations from the Art Nouveau period.
The candelabrum is richly decorated with organic floral and grape motifs, with five sweeping, tentacle-like arms extending from the substantial central body. The combination of hand-hammered silver, sculptural ornamentation and flowing naturalistic forms makes design #383A a superb expression of Georg Jensen’s Art Nouveau aesthetic.
The candle holders and cuffs unscrew, a practical feature that makes cleaning and polishing considerably easier.
This celebrated model has appeared in numerous publications and has been collected by prominent figures, including fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Monumental in appearance yet beautifully balanced, it is as much a work of sculpture as a functional object, and makes a striking centrepiece on its own.
Each piece of hollowware is delivered with a complimentary anti-tarnish storage bag to keep your silver at its best.
