Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Melon Coffee Pot 159
A substantial Georg Jensen sterling silver coffee pot with hand carved ebony handle, design #159 by Georg Jensen, introduced in 1912. Commonly known as the “Melon” pattern, this iconic design is among Georg Jensen’s most celebrated and labor intensive creations.
The domed lid is surmounted by a sculptural blossom bud finial and features repoussé decoration on the underside. The melon shaped body is adorned with alternating oxidized, hand chased panels separated by rope like motifs, with matching decoration continuing to the circular foot. The hand carved ebony handle provides a beautiful contrast to the silver and remains cool to the touch when serving.
A striking example of Georg Jensen’s early Art Nouveau craftsmanship, combining sculptural elegance with exceptional functionality.
