Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Large Five-Light Candelabra 474
A pair of extra-large Georg Jensen sterling silver candelabra, design #474 by Johan Rohde. This design features many of the same elements as Rohde’s iconic acorn silverware pattern and was created to complement that style. Each candelabrum stands on a large hand-hammered 10-sided column foot with a high edge base. The body consists of stacked sections with a hand-chased bead design, inspired by Roman motifs. The middle section mirrors the 10-sided design and leads up to the sconces. A group of five branches, each with an individual sconce, is decorated with the same 10-sided motif, and each branch includes an attached drip catcher.
The 10-sided design follows the candelabra from thick to thin, a very difficult task for a silversmith to complete, adding an impressive level of craftsmanship to the piece. The middle section, which features a prominent floral design, includes five columns with scroll designs, each supporting and bracing the branches. These columns are separated by a single floral motif—a series of Art Nouveau floral bulbs stacked upon one another. The design culminates with a central riser, adorned with floral petals and topped with a large pinecone/acorn finial.
- Dimensions: Each candelabrum measures 17 1/8″ (43.5 cm) in height and has a span of 9 1/4″ (24 cm).
- Weight: The combined weight of the pair is 3556 grams (125.43 oz).
- Hallmarks: Vintage Georg Jensen hallmarks from 1945-1977, sterling Denmark JR (Johan Rohde) 474.
