Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Ice Bucket 945

An exceptionally rare sterling silver ice pail or bucket by Georg Jensen, design #945 by Sigvard Bernadotte in 1948, as part of the cocktail set with the same design number, #945. The bucket features a removable lid, round in shape, with an art deco-style movable ring. The bucket itself has a slightly conical form with applied silver beads as a decorative design. The fabrication of this piece was extremely challenging, which is why only a handful were ever produced. The process involved welding each bead onto the bucket while it was heated, and to prevent distortion, the entire piece was heated by one smith while another welded each bead. The top of the inside diameter of the bucket features an applied rim edge to provide additional stability.

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 7″ (19cm) tall at the highest point to the top of the ring. The bucket is 4 1/2″ (12cm) tall x 6 1/4″ (16cm) in diameter.

  • Weight: 885 grams (31.27 ounces).

  • Hallmarks: Early 1945-1977 Georg Jensen hallmarks, sterling Denmark #945.
