Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Henning Koppel Fish Dish 1026

This exceptionally rare early vintage Georg Jensen fish platter, design #1026 by Henning Koppel, was created in 1954 and acquired by The Danish Design Museum (formerly Kunstindustrimuseet).

This significant piece is a testament to craftsmanship and innovation. Initially, the platter was entirely handcrafted, as evidenced by the domed shape, which is more squared off at the top compared to later models. Over the years, tools were developed at the Jensen silversmithy to facilitate the manufacturing process, making these early handmade versions particularly rare.

The covered, domed, two-piece fish platter features no additional decoration, allowing its form and shape to serve as its own ornamentation. This minimalist design creates an organic effect and beautifully reflects light. The ends of the platter are turned up, resembling the mouth of a codfish, which also serves as a functional handle for lifting the cover. Henning Koppel rejected strict Functionalism, focusing instead on creating truly beautiful objects. This fish platter is one of his most monumental and stunning works, with its sensual curves and wonderfully organic shape.
