Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Grape Candlesticks 263A

An elegant pair of vintage Georg Jensen sterling silver candlesticks in the Grape design, #263A, designed by Georg Jensen circa 1930.

These candlesticks are a fine example of the craftsmanship found in earlier Georg Jensen production. The decorative elements are extensively hand-fabricated and hand-chased, giving the design a depth and character that differs from later cast production. The slender stems are decorated with a spiraling vine-like chased motif and rise from broad circular bases with applied silver bead details. At the top, the grape clusters are constructed bead by bead and joined by flowing vine and leaf elements. Selective oxidation enhances the recessed decoration and adds definition to the design. The gently flared drip pans provide an elegant transition to the candle holders while also serving the practical purpose of catching wax.
