Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Candelabra #383B
A Pair of Early Decorative Georg Jensen Two-Light Candelabra #383B
Designed in 1921 by the renowned Georg Jensen, this exquisite pair of two-light candelabra exemplifies the elegance of early 20th-century silver craftsmanship. The design features gracefully curved arms adorned with intricate chasing that mimics grapevine branches. Each hollow, hand-crafted sconce is removable, as is the lightly hammered drip tray. The top is crowned with a handle adorned with ornate details of a ball, grapes, and leaves, while clusters of large, sculpted grapes surround the elegantly formed central body. The base showcases a columnar foot, completing the harmonious design.
These candelabra are true masterpieces, embodying the artistry and attention to detail that have made Georg Jensen’s work so collectible—evidenced by their inclusion in the collection of the late Karl Lagerfeld. Like many of Jensen’s designs, they reflect the Art Nouveau style, characterized by flowing, ornamental curves, organic structures, and botanical motifs. The detailed chasing work on the floral elements is individually applied, with soft lines and hammer marks enhancing the overall pattern. Remarkably, the time spent on chasing these intricate details exceeds the hours required for the silversmith to construct the pieces themselves.
