Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Art Deco Water Pitcher 606
An early and remarkable Art Deco sterling silver Georg Jensen pitcher, design #606 by Harald Nielsen from 1930. This exquisite piece was featured on the cover of the recent book “Georg Jensen: Scandinavian Design for Living” (Yale University Press), published in 2018 in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Art Institute of Chicago. The pitcher showcases a nearly enclosed round-shaped body with a handcrafted lipped spout and a curved, hand-chased handle adorned with etched oxidized linear work. Its small round foot enhances the curvature, giving the piece a very organic, almost animalistic design that is striking. This pitcher required extensive handcraftsmanship, likely done by a senior silversmith. Notably, it bears hallmarks indicating it is one of the earliest pieces made.
