Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Art Deco Centerpiece Bowl 636

An early Georg Jensen sterling silver Art Deco centerpiece bowl, design #636 by Harald Nielsen in 1931. This impressive hand-crafted oval bowl rests on an elegant oval Pyramid pattern foot with an oxidized beveled ring. The sculptural form is enhanced by two large opposing handles, each decorated underneath with substantial silver beads attached to branch like stems that continue beneath the handles and extend down to the base, a highly sophisticated detail that would have been exceptionally difficult to fabricate by hand.

Above each handle is an Art Deco inspired branch support, carefully designed to secure the handles firmly to the bowl while adding a graceful architectural element to the overall form. The upper rim of the bowl features an applied edge, meticulously fitted and hand finished to follow the exact contour of the bowl, demonstrating the extraordinary craftsmanship associated with Georg Jensen silver from this period. Designed in 1931 and bearing hallmarks from the same era, this is a striking and important centerpiece from the height of Danish Art Deco design.
