Rare Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Art Deco Bonbonierre 704

A very rare early, possibly prototype, Georg Jensen Art Deco sterling silver bonbonnière, design no. 704 by Sigvard Bernadotte, introduced in 1931. The circular lid is engraved with a stylized Art Deco female figure that simultaneously evokes the form of a swan or bird, a sophisticated dual-symbol motif frequently seen in Danish and Swedish silver design of the 1920s and 1930s. This example bears Georg Jensen hallmarks used between 1925–1932 and is not numbered 704, the number later assigned to the production model. As the design was only introduced in 1931, this piece would have been produced in either 1931 or 1932, making it among the earliest examples made and quite possibly the original prototype.

The concentric rings surrounding the figure, echoed again on the base, strongly reinforce the streamlined Art Deco aesthetic, creating a striking sense of movement and radiating energy. The restrained decoration and elegant geometry reflect Sigvard Bernadotte’s influential modernist approach during the early years of Scandinavian Art Deco design.
