Georg Jensen Monumental Sterling Silver Clock 339

An exquisite sterling silver Georg Jensen clock, model #339, designed by Johan Rohde in 1920, presented on a solid granite base. The round silver dial is protected by a domed glass front that opens gracefully. The handles feature intricate scrollwork, inspired by early Viking and Nordic artistry, a hallmark of Rohde’s design. The robust case is adorned with detailed scrollwork, berries, and floral motifs, meticulously hand-chased over considerable time. An enormous amount of hand chasing was done on this piece, a process that would have taken months, if not a year. The floral buds are intricately intertwined with stems, set in scroll-like motifs. The numbers and Nordic-inspired dial were also hand-chased. Furthermore, the clock features oceanic hand chasing, inspired by early Viking design, around the tiered, stepped column that supports the large dial. The back of the clock is just as meticulously adorned with floral bud and berry designs. The sides have a hand-chased leaf motif. The entire clock is slightly hand-hammered, and the hammering is still visible, indicating that the clock has never been machine-polished or altered from its original state. Due to the early period hallmarks, this would have been one of the very first ever made in this design. The clockwork is original and has been serviced by our clocksmith. It is a single-clock mechanism, the only form made for this design. The clock is wound by a key that can be hung discreetly on the back of the clock. This is a 7-12 day winding clock, and the key numbered 4 is most likely not the original key. The clock rests securely on a substantial granite slab, ensuring stability. A splendid addition to any home decor, the clock’s mechanisms are fully functional. The condition is very good, though the marble base has a crack that has been professionally repaired. The entire clock is hand hammered which highlights the clock’s authenticity and the careful preservation of its original state.
