Georg Jensen Henning Koppel Sterling Silver Bowl 1068

An exceptional and monumental Georg Jensen sterling silver centerpiece bowl, design #1068 by Henning Koppel (1918–1981), introduced in 1958. Handcrafted in Denmark, this striking work is widely regarded as one of Koppel’s most sculptural and ambitious hollowware designs.

The bowl embodies Koppel’s revolutionary approach to silver design, where functionality and sculpture merge into a single form. Resting on three distinct points, the first formed by the base of the bowl itself, the second by an elegant extension of the rim flowing downward to create a supporting leg, and the third by a dramatic projecting leg angled outward. The result is a dynamic asymmetrical composition that appears almost to defy gravity while maintaining perfect balance.

With its sweeping organic lines and fluid sculptural form, this centerpiece captures the essence of Scandinavian Modernism and reflects Koppel’s background as a sculptor. The design transforms sterling silver into a work of contemporary art, making the piece equally impressive as a functional centerpiece or as a stand-alone decorative sculpture.
