Georg Jensen Extra-Large Sterling Silver Oval Blossom Tray 2s

An exceptional and extra-large early Georg Jensen sterling silver Blossom tray, design no. 2S by Georg Jensen. This monumental oval tray is entirely hand crafted and features two opposing openwork blossom handles with finely hand chased floral decoration. The elegant applied rim further highlights the remarkable craftsmanship involved in its creation.

Producing a tray of this scale required extraordinary silversmithing skill. The extensive hand hammering not only shaped the tray but also strengthened the silver, allowing the large surface to retain its tension and form. Achieving an even surface on a piece of this size was a demanding task reserved for only the most accomplished craftsmen. The intricate chasing and construction of the handles and rim would have required many hours of specialized handwork.

The Blossom pattern is among Georg Jensen’s earliest and most iconic designs, originating in 1905 with the celebrated Blossom teapot, followed by several other Blossom pieces.
