Georg Jensen Extra-Large Sterling Silver Lidded Tureen #408a

A monumental vintage Danish sterling silver Georg Jensen oval tureen design #408A by Georg Jensen in 1921. The remarkable feature of this tureen is its large size, which commands attention. Handcrafted with a spacious oval base resting on an oval foot. Gracing opposite sides of the tureen are generous clusters of grapes, serving as elegant handles. The lids of the tureen is adorned with a large domed shape, embellished with a grape vine motif and intricately hand-chased florals, which also act as handle for lifting. One of the most appealing aspects of this design is Jensen’s deliberate restraint in ornamentation, embodying a captivating minimalist interpretation of the art nouveau style, a characteristic which makes this tureen a collectable item.
