Georg Jensen 18K Gold Opal Diamond Brooch Pendant No. 49
A stunning early Georg Jensen 18kt gold pendant/brooch, design #49 by Georg Jensen, centered around a magnificent large opal stone weighing approximately 18 carats. The opal displays exceptional play-of-color with vivid red, green, and blue flashes—the image does not fully capture its beauty. The intensity of the red fire, the most sought-after color in opals, is remarkable, making this one of the finest opal stones we have owned.
The central opal is elegantly framed by delicate bead clusters and surrounded by four hand-chased floral petals, each set with three VVS-quality diamonds, totaling approximately 0.80 carats. These are positioned at the cardinal points—north, south, east, and west, reflecting design elements inspired by early Viking-era Scandinavian jewelry.
The back of the opal is open, allowing light to pass through and reveal its vibrant colors. The piece is fitted with a secure gold pin and locking mechanism, enabling it to be worn as a brooch. In addition, two hidden loops allow it to be worn as a pendant on a chain. The reverse also features a gold bar lock system that stabilizes the piece when worn.
The piece comes in the original Georg Jensen box, adding to its collectability.
