Exceptional Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Hot Water Kettle on Stand, Design #3

A monumental sterling silver Georg Jensen tea and hot water kettle on stand, design #3 by Georg Jensen, designed in 1914. This exceptional masterpiece showcases an extraordinary level of craftsmanship and detail, representing the very finest of early Georg Jensen hollowware. The kettle is fitted with a gracefully curved ebony handle, a hinged lid, and a finely carved ebony finial. The body is masterfully hand raised in sections with oxidized hand chased lines, formed in the elegant shape and texture of a melon. The rich contrast between the sterling silver and carved ebony elements enhances the sculptural quality of the piece.

The kettle is ingeniously secured to the stand by two removable silver pins. When both pins are withdrawn, the kettle can be completely removed from the stand. By removing only the rear pin, the kettle tilts gracefully forward for pouring while remaining attached to the stand, a remarkable functional detail that reflects the thoughtful engineering and refined craftsmanship of early Georg Jensen design.

The stand rests upon four sterling silver feet with ebony insulators beneath, supporting an ebony platform with a silver overlay. Rising from the base are four elegant columns adorned with intricate Art Nouveau inspired hand chased decoration. Centered within the stand is a large and highly detailed burner executed in the same melon pattern as the kettle itself. The burner retains its carved ebony handle, hinged lid, and original bead wheel used to regulate the wick. Every element of this work demonstrates the remarkable skill of the silversmiths at Georg Jensen during the early twentieth century. The fabrication and chasing of a piece of this complexity would have required many months of painstaking handwork.
