Early Arts and Crafts Monumental Erik Magnussen and Bing and Groendahl Lamp
A very important Arts and Crafts large Bing & Groendahl lamp mounted in 830 silver by Erik Magnussen. The design is typical Magnussen and depicts two large butterflies attached to fruit and branches. Magnussen and other Danish designers were very much inspired by the Japanese Arts and Crafts movement circa 1890 and this piece is a perfect example.
Hallmarks: The silver is hallmarked underneath “1911 EM 830SS ERIK M 34″, and contemporary porcelain marks for Bing & Groendahl and painters initials “CH”.
Measurements: Large at 16″ in height without the shade and 28″ with the shade (40cm, 70cm). The diameter of the porcelain is 6 1/2″ (16cm)
The condition is excellent, remarkable considering this piece is from 1911, both porcelain and silver show no signs of damage.
All our items have been professionally polished by our Georg Jensen trained silversmith and are in excellent condition.
