Ibe Dahlquist
1924 - 1996
One of Sweden’s most prominent contemporary silversmiths, Ibe Dahlquist studied at the Swedish School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. She then began her silver workshop in Visby, with Mr. Olof Barve, where they both maintained close cooperation for nearly three decades. Dahlquist focused on the designs while Barve executed them. In the mid-1950s, at the exhibition, “Contemporary Jewelry” the duo showed off a series set in silver with fossils and rocks picked on Gotland beaches. Early Dahlquist designs often show organic yet geometric expression, showing how nature serves as both inspiration and incorporates unworked materials. Employed by Georg Jensen from 1965, it was here Dahlquist moved to a more austere modernist jewelry, though rhythmic patterns and repeated elements still came through in her designs. With countless Swedish exhibitions, her work is on display in the Goldsmith’s Hall, London, and in museums throughout Sweden.
